Most modern divorces do not end in a clean break. You have children; there are joint business ventures, or you may even decide to keep the retirement accounts jointly held because it is cheaper and better for you both. In fact, many people will stay in contact for the sheer fact that they have known this person for a long time ? it isn’t easy to cut people out of your life. Regardless of the reason, many divorced couples continue to have a relationship post-divorce. This post will go over the dangers that cause fights between post-divorce couples.
First, identify the triggers that lead to a fight. The triggers are unique for each couple. It could be pet peeves from the marriage or something substantial. Whatever the trigger, make sure you openly discuss them all to ensure that you can address them in a cordial manner.
Second, you may be divorced, but that does not mean that your word no longer hurts one another. Remember that you once loved and lived with this person. Your words can hurt them in ways that few others can. Don’t let anger take you to a place where you cannot come back.
Finally, many couples are divorcing who have kids. You will be tempted to use your children to retaliate against your ex-spouse. Don’t give into that temptation. It is a bad idea legally because it could serve as grounds to reform the child custody arrangement and it is bad form. Your children benefit from both of you being in their lives, don’t let anything ever distract you from the overriding purpose of parenting, to care and love for your children.
Are you considering divorce? If you are, you may want to contact a lawyer and get some advice. As you can see, your problems with divorce do not end once it is finalized. An attorney can help you anticipate the problems and prepare for them before they become a dispute. The end of a marriage might seem like a lonely thing to undertake, but you don’t have to do it alone. A lawyer can guide you through the process.
