What are the benefits of mediation?

Divorce mediation offers a number of benefits for divorcing couples to consider. Mediation enlists the help of a neutral third party to resolve divorce-related issues that are oftentimes contested between divorcing couples. The idea of litigating divorce-related issues may compound the stress families face during the divorce process, while mediation may help minimize anxiety sometimes associated with the divorce process.

There are different Alternative Dispute Resolution options available so it is important to be familiar with those options and which options are best for the unique circumstances of different families and couples. It is important for divorcing couples utilizing the mediation process to be able to interact respectfully and express themselves openly. A number of divorce-related issues, such as child custody, property division, finances, retirement and the family home, that may lead to disputes between the couple and can be addressed in mediation.

It is helpful during the divorce process whenever couples can reach shared agreements and a mediator can help divorcing couples navigate their way towards agreements concerning important divorce-related issues. Mediation can be a more cost-effective option for the couple and better for children than litigating a divorce. Couples are not required to agree on everything during the divorce process but the more they are able to agree on, peacefully and through cooperation, the better and mediation may be able to help with that.

Divorce mediation allows the divorcing couple to work together with a mediator and sometimes experts and other professionals to reach a settlement agreement and reduce time and cost. No divorce is considered too complex for the mediation process which allows the divorcing couple to reach agreements that are tailor made for couple and their family, making it an important option to consider.
