Actress and musician husband plan to divorce in California

On Behalf of | May 31, 2018 | Divorce |

Prominent people are commonplace in California, and they often have the same personal problems in their relationships as everyone else. These can result in the end of a marriage and the accompanying difficulties. While it might appear on the surface that people who have achieved notoriety in the entertainment industry or have accrued significant wealth will have fewer issues than regular workaday people, the reality is vastly different. People with significant assets can face various divorce legal issues that make the situation more complicated.

Actress Alicia Silverstone is moving forward with a divorce from her musician and actor husband Chris Jarecki. The couple has been married for almost 13 years and they have one son. Ms. Silverstone and Mr. Jarecki had been together as a couple for more than two decades. She is 41 and he is 47. The plan is that they will share custody of their child. Irreconcilable differences were the cited reason for the decision to divorce. They have a premarital agreement, and this will dictate how the spousal support will be handled. The parting of the ways is reportedly amicable.

When a couple decides that they can no longer stay together and chooses to divorce, there are numerous issues that will come to the forefront. This is true whether it is an amicable situation, one that is slightly acrimonious or one that is outright hostile. A premarital agreement can ease the process, but it not always that simple. Circumstances can call the validity of the document into question. Factors such as child custody, spousal support, visitation and more can make even a relatively simple divorce harder.

Ms. Silverstone, the prominent actress, and her musician husband Mr. Jarecki have chosen to end their marriage and are doing so in what seems to be an agreeable case. However, that does not mean it will remain so, premarital agreement and status as “friends” aside. Any divorce has the potential to go from simple to complex rather quickly, so it is important to make informed decisions regarding any divorce legal issues.
