Model and retired football player reportedly plan to divorce

On Behalf of | Mar 29, 2018 | Divorce |

California divorces can be complicated regardless of a person’s job, social standing or income. When the couple is well-known, then the situation grows more complex. People who are public figures whether it is in the entertainment industry, in sports or in some other prominent area can have trouble going through the divorce process. Many of these cases are a high-asset divorce with property division a constant source of dispute.

The reality show duo Hank Baskett and Kendra Wilkinson are reportedly planning to divorce. The couple has been married for nine years. Ms. Wilkinson is a model and Mr. Baskett was a wide receiver for several teams in the National Football League before retiring. The couple had problems in the past with Mr. Baskett accused of infidelity. In February, Ms. Wilkinson told her social media followers that she and her husband were having problems in their relationship. The couple married in 2009 and has two children, an 8-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl.

It is not unusual for there to be high-profile divorces in California, and no matter what the level of notoriety of the people involved is, there will inevitably be disputes over property, finances, child custody and more. Any divorce can be painful, but when it is in the public sphere, it is far worse. Property division is an essential issue if there is a home, vehicles and other items that might be of significant value. Child custody can be problematic, as can visitation. In a best-case scenario, the participants will be amicable and come to an agreement to settle the matter as quickly and painlessly as possible.

In the case of Mr. Baskett and Ms. Wilkinson, much of their marriage has been played out in the public and in front of the cameras. That can be a difficult circumstance, especially when the decision is made to divorce. They and anyone else who has significant assets, children and is known in the community should understand that they have interests that can be protected.
